Lost Heat in Your Home? Here’s What You Can Do
Winter is well underway, and temperatures are low. If you live in Eastern Pennsylvania, you likely rely on a heating system to keep your home safe and comfortable throughout the cold season. As much as we hope for our heating systems to be reliable and efficient all season long, sometimes they may unexpectedly stop working. We at Hollenbach Home Comfort Services are here to help.
When you lose heat in your home, it’s critical to act for the comfort and safety of your family. Also, a loss of heat in your home for a long time can cause significant damage if your pipes freeze and burst, leaving you with a costly mess.
No need to panic, though—there are some quick and easy steps you can take to try to get the heat back up and running safely.
Steps to Take if Your Heat Stops Working
- Check Your Thermostat: Have a programmable thermostat? First make sure the batteries have not died. If the batteries are working, or if you have a manual thermostat, check that the thermostat is switched to HEAT, and is set higher than the temperature inside.
- Check All Switches: Make sure the emergency furnace switches, fuses, and circuit breakers all switched to the “on” position.
- Verify Your Fuel Level: Check the oil tank gauge to see if you have home heating oil in your tank. If not, contact Hollenbach Home Comfort Services right away to refill your tank and restart your system.
- Hit the Reset Button: Press the RESET button on your burner ONCE and check to see if a flame comes on. If not, DO NOT press the button again—call us for service right away.
Hopefully, following these steps will get your heat on again and running without further problems. If you perform the above actions and your heat still isn’t turning on, call our sister company and service provider, Jay Hollenbach Jr. Plumbing and Heating.
